Call of Duty is usually highly recommended. Left4Dead is also great if you have a lot of friends to hang out with. Since it comes as part of Orange Box you can get Team Fortress 2, Portal, and Half-Life with it.

I recommend Crackdown, which is basically a game like GTA, but you are the Establishment so all the stuff that got you stars in GTA is a good thing, such as taking people out, blowing up cars and such. Also has an interesting art style, and is extremely fun to play for a few minutes, or even a few hours depending on how much time you have to play.

Xbox 360 had an excellent year, although most of the glory was shared with other gaming platforms.
